Shipping Updates and How-to-Play Resources

Constables,
In this update, we will give you an update on shipping and give you a bunch of resources that will help you get up and running quickly so you can be ready for your New Salem Halloween party. Have you sent out your invites yet? This is probably the most important update you will receive as it contains so many juicy resources.
Golden Ray Capsizes
If you're paying attention to the news in the US this past week, you may have seen a report of a cargo ship capsized off the coast of Georgia at almost exactly the same day and place as our US games were scheduled to arrive there before heading to our US fulfillment center in Atlanta.
Whenever we have games on the ocean, my dreams are haunted by imagery like the one above so when I heard this news, my heart nearly jumped out of my chest as I furiously researched the vessel names and compared them to our shipping documentation.
But thankfully, this was not our cargo ship and everyone on board was rescued. However, it has delayed activities in that port and our US games have not quite reached their US fulfillment center as originally planned. We are expecting the delay to be only a few days and the games should arrive this upcoming week with US fulfillment to begin immediately thereafter.
Fulfillment Dates
As we mentioned in the last Update, we are doing local shipments from different fulfillment centers and we can't put them into nice buckets like "all UK shipments will be shipping on this date" or "all Deluxe shipments will be shipping on that date" but I can give you a general feel for when yours will arrive.
The bulk of the US and UK orders are expected to begin shipping near the end of this upcoming week and are on track to arrive before the end of the month. For all other countries and some All the Things backers in the US and UK, it will be a little sporadic where they could arrive this week, later this month, or maybe even into October depending on customs delays and how fast your local shipping is in your country, so keep an eye on your tracking numbers.
Tracking Numbers
You may receive 2 emails about tracking numbers: one from the fulfillment company and one from BackerKit. If your inbox is out of sorts or you don't want to hunt for emails, you can always log-in to your BackerKit profile using your Kickstarter email address to find your tracking number. The tracking number will appear there once it has shipped. If you don't receive a tracking number by September 30th, please send us a Kickstarter message or email [email protected].
Rules
For those of you who learn better by reading rules, here they are for various languages:
The rulebook is longer than it is for most of our games, but not because the game is very complicated or hard to learn, it's just because it is filled with diagrams to help you visual learners compare what you read to pictures. So please don't let the size of it intimidate you -- you will FLY through it (or run if you're a Puritan).

Upgrading from 1st Edition to 2nd Edition
These are instructions for everyone who got one of the Upgrade Kit reward levels or who have a GameTrayz insert. Anyone else can skip this section.
To upgrade from 1st Edition to 2nd Edition:
Replace all of your Events from 1st Edition with the 24 Events from the upgrade kit.
Replace all of your Characters from 1st Edition with the 10 Characters from the upgrade kit.
Replace all of your orange Gloom Buildings with the white Death Buildings.
Replace all of your blue Law Buildings with the black Justice Buildings.
Replace your 1st Edition rulebook with 2nd Edition rulebook.
Assemble the Constable and add it to your box. (it fits in the box fully assembled)
Add the 8 badges to your box.
If you got the Deluxe Upgrade Kit:
Replace the 1st Edition box with the 2nd Edition box.
Replace your Hope and Despair cubes with the engraved tokens.
Replace the chipboard badges with the wooden engraved badges.
Replace the poker-sized Character cards with the tarot-sized Character cards.
You can store your replaced items in that 1st Edition box but you don’t need to bring it with you for game nights.
If you have a GameTrayz tray:
Stack your Hope/Despair cups together into one stack when you put it away to make room for the fully-constructed Constable token.

There are a lot of different configurations you may have depending on whether you got an upgrade kit or 2nd Edition, deluxe or standard, and GameTrayz or no GameTrayz. But don't worry, we have made it easy on you... just click on the link below for a picture of how we recommend you store everything for your particular version:

Local Shipping Timeline

Greetings Constables,
Freight shipping is fully underway! Your game is likely on a boat or broomstick right now headed to a fulfillment center near you. That means that we can finally give you some fairly accurate estimates of when you will get your reward, but the TLDR version is that all games will be shipped out before the end of September and most of you will receive your reward near the end of September. See below for the deets!
Local Shipping Timeline
OK, now let's talk about how local shipping will occur for this campaign, but be warned: it’s based on estimates from third parties and it's largely out of our control so things could change. But estimates are better than nothing, right?
One thing that's a little different than in the past is that we’re not necessarily organizing shipping phases based on country or item so, unfortunately, we can’t say things like “all UK upgrade kits will ship during this week,” but everything is shipping around the same time and most of you will receive tracking info when your game leaves the fulfillment center. Now, on to the phases:
Phase 0 - Ships End of August
Over the next 2 weeks, we will mainly be testing out the order process and packaging methods with each of our fulfillment centers but we’ll also be able to send out a few games. The guinea pigs for these first shipments will be our campaign collaborators like the ridiculously talented artist (Andrea), reviewers who made preview videos/articles for the campaign, and those who translated rules for us. This will help us catch any packaging issues before shipments go out to the masses.
Phase 1 - Ships Early to Mid September
At the beginning of September, we’ll be shipping rewards out to backers who live in countries where customs or local shipping is known to take a long time. We’ll also get about 75% of the All the Things rewards shipped, regardless of the destination country, just because of where we happen to have copies of Barker’s Row. Some of these will start arriving in mid September and the rest will arrive later in the month.
Phase 2 - Ships Mid to Late September
All the rest of the rewards, mainly going to countries with faster customs and local shipping, will start shipping in mid September. These will start arriving in late September and a few might slide into the first week of October.
So all this means that by the end of September, all rewards will have shipped, except of course for those where we don’t have a completed BackerKit survey or payment. If you have any questions about your particular situation, please send us a Kickstarter message or an email to [email protected].

Manufacturing Complete, Addresses Locking

If you have been paying attention to the comments on the main page, you know that manufacturing is COMPLETE! Now everything is being assembled into boxes before it all heads out towards various fulfillment centers around the world. That means you will have your rewards well before Halloween so START PLANNING THOSE PARTIES, WITCHES!
Addresses Locking
We will be locking mailing addresses on August 2nd. This means that, if your address has changed since you filled out your BackerKit survey, or it will change before delivery in September, you must update it before then. You can do so by going to this link and logging in with your Kickstarter email address.
If you are moving in late August, September, or early October, send us a Kickstarter message or email [email protected] and we'll discuss whether it makes sense to hold your order and ship it once you've moved.
BackerKit Credit Card Charging
Credit cards for BackerKit orders were charged, and if they failed to charge, you received an email to resolve the issue. For any that remain unresolved, we'll try to charge one last time on August 2nd so we can send you your full order during fulfillment.

Progress and Next Steps
OK, now that we got that administrative stuff out of the way, let's talk about the progress. We received and approved all production samples and we are blown away by how well it all turned out. We had enough time to make a few adjustments to them and how they are packaged as well just to ensure everything is perfect.
After approvals, manufacturing could officially be completed -- so everything has now been created! It's all being boxed up as you read this so that we can start shipping out to fulfillment centers in the Freight Shipping phase very soon.
Most of August will be freight shipping, but the first local shipments will go out at the end of August. September will be the primary month for local fulfillment. We'll give you dates for each region in the next update so you can be ready for it.
On Schedule!
We'll keep commenting on the main page with mini-updates, but the next formal update will be sent after the boats are on the water and we have estimated arrival dates for each region because then we'll have a good feel for when you will get your games in your hands depending on where you live and what you ordered. Over the next couple of updates, we'll give you some tips for upgrading 1st Edition to 2nd Edition, recommended storage configurations, and anything else that we think might help get you up-and-running on your witch hunt quickly.

Manufacturing Progress, Freight Shipping, and BackerKit Charging

Manufacturing is in full swing and will wrap up in July. Then it's assembly and freight shipping, and man, we can't wait to get into shipping 'cause then you know it's getting real close.
BackerKit Charging
With manufacturing wrapping up and freight shipping beginning soon, it's time to charge credit cards for anything you purchased through BackerKit. We will do so on July 5th.
Address Changing?
Is your mailing address still correct assuming an August or September delivery of your reward? You can make sure by logging in right here with your Kickstarter email address.

Eoghan over at www.hifiwords.com updated the Spanish rules with some even better formatting than in the last PDF (the last version looked awesome too). If there is anyone reading this who needs rules translations, we highly recommend Hi-Fi Words. Thanks Eoghan!

We got some pictures from the manufacturer of what the despair trackers will look like -- these will slide along your canvas mat (for you deluxe constables out there) to track how much despair you have let seep into your city.

Here's how things are shaping up schedule-wise:
Mid July: Manufacturing completes.
Late July: Assembly completes.
August: Freight shipping.
Late August: Shipping to backers begins.
September: Fulfillment continues.

Gen Con
We'll have some booth space at Gen Con (at the Albino Dragon booth) where you can check out the final version of New Salem, but we decided not to sell any there because we want you to be the first to get your hands on it.

Mass Production Has Begun

We are so happy to report that the mass production phase for all components is now IN PROGRESS and the project is overall still on schedule! That's the short version, but keep reading for the deets.
Is Your Address Still Current?
Please make sure your address is up-to-date in BackerKit because we are using multiple fulfillment centers around the world and we need to know which is closest to you so we know how many copies of which items need to go to which center. August is likely the month you will be receiving your reward. You can log-in here to confirm your address is current.
Progress Report
We are basically making 3 separate games here (New Salem 2nd Edition, 1st Edition -> 2nd Edition Upgrade Kit, and the Deluxe Component Pack) so there was a lot to check, tweak, and get just right in the pre-production phase before we could approve it for mass production. We appreciate your patience as we got through it.
Since it took a little longer than we expected to get everything approved to print, we are moving back the date we will charge credit cards for BackerKit additions to July when the shipping phase begins. We'll give an exact date for that in the next update.
