Greetings Constables,

It's exciting to see that we are over 750 strong now with the big Final Forty Eight finale still ahead of us. We have a good shot at getting into 4-digit backer territory before the end and, man, that will result in a sweet pile of stretch goals for everyone to swim through.

Stretch Goal Update

Another update and another stretch goal achieved. Seance is now in the event pack that everyone who backs for a physical reward will receive! Next up is the linen finish on the 2nd Edition box, which will fit in perfectly with the rest of the aesthetics of this game. We’re trending towards knocking that out before our 48 hour notice goes out on Tuesday when we’ll welcome a lot more citizens to our little town to help us with the remaining stretch goals. More on those soon....

German and Italian Rules
about 5 years ago – Mon, Jan 21, 2019 at 01:12:15 PM

Constables!

We have just passed the midpoint of the campaign, so we are in the midst of the dreaded Kickstarter "dead zone," where some campaigns grind to a halt. Luckily, this campaign is still making progress each day toward those stretch goals and, in fact, we are on the doorstep of getting Seance added to all reward levels. We're super excited to see how many others jump on board in the last half of the campaign! If you have a friend who might like this game or you can think of a place to post about it, you may help recruit some more constables and get us closer to Seance.

We're about to have a Seance!
We're about to have a Seance!

German Rules Updated

For all of you with German-speaking friends, you’ll be happy to know that we put the German rules translation into the PDF so the words match up with the images, which will make it easier for those who use it. You can get that new version right here.

Italian Rules Added

And for those who speak Italian, Stefano Lo Cascio has been kind enough to translate the rules into Italian. The artist, Andrea Olgiati, natively speaks Italian so I know he will be happy. Here they are

Promo Paradise Promo for New Salem

We mentioned in our first update that we did an interview with Martyn Poole who is part of the Promo Paradise campaign and now we're happy to announce that he convinced us to add a New Salem promo event to their offering! We are scheduled to deliver this game before them and we want them to have exclusivity on it for a while so we won't add it to this campaign, but we'll make it available after they deliver in the BGG store, at conventions, and on our website. But if you want to grab that through their campaign, it's in their Strategy Gamer pack.

As always, let us know if you have any questions through comments, Kickstarter messages, or email. We'd love to hear from ya,

Avatars!
about 5 years ago – Thu, Jan 17, 2019 at 02:33:17 PM

Greetings Constables,

Well, we passed the $40K and 650 backer marks. We're going to celebrate by giving you some avatars! We'll also cover stretch goals, a note about the sleeves, and Stuart tells us how the first witch was confirmed.

Stretch Goal Update

We just hit another stretch goal for our beloved custom tarot sleeves! That means everyone who backed for the All the Things or a Deluxe level will get free custom sleeves for their 10 tarot-sized Character cards. We're going to plan to give you 12 sleeves so that you have a couple extras, just in case. Thanks for suggesting and voting on this one, everyone! Next up is a new event in the event pack for all reward levels: Seance.

Sleeves Update

We're happy to confirm that New Salem artist Andrea Olgiati has agreed to create the custom sleeves design! He will make sure it fits nicely with the rest of his world and we can't wait to see what he comes up with for 'em.

After we offered the sleeves up, we didn't have as many people add them on as the survey results suggested, but maybe everyone will do that in the BackerKit survey or maybe some of you aren't sure about what actions you would need to take to do that. Soon after this update, we're going to send a custom message to each backer level to outline what is available for you and what you would need to do to get the sleeves. If you've already added them on, you can ignore that message. And now, a different message -- one from our 17th century friend Stuart who is continuing his story from the last update.

A Message from Stuart

My worry grows. More children have been having fits but the source of this evil had not been identified… that is, until yesterday. The afflicted children came together and informed us that they are not the witches, but instead, the adults going by the names Tituba, Sarah Osborne, and Sarah Goode are actually the witches who have cursed them.

The three of them were apprehended and examined by Judges John Hathorne and Jonathan Corwin at the Salem Village Meetinghouse today. The best part? Tituba confessed that she has served the devil. She's a witch! This is an account of the confession since you weren't there:

[Hathorne]: Tituba what evil spirit have you familiarity with?

[Tituba]: None

[Hathorne]: Why do you hurt these children?

[Tituba]: I do not hurt them

[Hathorne]: Who is it then?

[Tituba]: The devil for ought I know

[Hathorne]: Did you never see the devil?

[Tituba]: The devil came to me and bid me serve him

[Hathorne]: Who have you seen?

[Tituba]: Four women sometimes hurt the children

[Hathorne]: Who were they?

[Tituba]: Goody Osburn and Sarah Good and I doe not know who the other were Sarah Good and Osburne would have me hurt the children but I would not she further saith there was a tale man of Boston that she did see

[Hathorne]: When did you see them?

[Tituba]: Last night at Boston

[Hathorne]: What did they say to you they said hurt the children?

[Hathorne]: And did you hurt them?

[Tituba]: No there is four women and one man they hurt the children and then lay all upon me and they tell me if I will not hurt the children they will hurt me

[Hathorne]: But did you not hurt them?

[Tituba]: Yes, but I will hurt them no more

[Hathorne]: Are you not sorry you did hurt them?

[Tituba]: Yes.

The Sleeve Add On is Now Available and the Tarot Sleeve Stretch Goal is Revealed
about 5 years ago – Sun, Jan 13, 2019 at 09:41:44 PM

Constables,

You spoke, we listened. Most of this update will cover a sleeve Add On we put together based on your feedback in the last update and a new stretch goal that we think you'll really like, but it will change our Deluxe and All the Things reward levels so there is some critical information you need to read in the next section. We're really just adding stuff so don't worry too much, but you should still read it. :)

The Sleeve Changes

Here are the results of the great sleeve vote in the last update:

As you can see, 76.9% of you indicated you would either add on sleeves for sure or you would if the price was reasonable, so that's enough for us. We're making that happen! And as for the type of sleeve, 58.7% said you wanted custom sleeves rather than simple transparent sleeves. Since ~23% of people aren't interested in sleeves anyway, most of you who are interested want custom ones so that's what we'll go for and just keep the price as low as possible.

You'll notice that we have a new item in the Add On section of the campaign for custom sleeves for New Salem. This will cover all the sleeves you will need for all the cards in any version of the game you get (200 poker sleeves). The only cards these Add On sleeve would not cover are the extra tarot-sized character cards that our Deluxe and All the Things backers will get. Those backers will also get poker-sized character cards so they can use the Add On sleeves for those, but we can do better than that.

HOWEVER, you may have noticed that last night when we achieved the Accusation stretch goal, we swapped out our digital wallpaper stretch goal at $40K for a stretch goal that will add tarot sleeves to the Deluxe and All the Things reward levels, just because we figured you'd want to sleeve EVERYTHING and we had some feedback that some weren't impressed with digital wallpaper. This is going to be the most expensive stretch goal we have probably ever given away on any campaign, but this campaign has done better than we expected, so we figured we can pass on some of that success to you. This may be a good reason for you to bump up to a Deluxe reward level if you were planning on Standard one.

The New Sleeve Add On
The New Sleeve Add On

If you add this to your pledge, when you get your game, you won't have to worry about figuring out which size sleeve to get or where to get them -- it will just come in your box. We'll test the quality to make sure we are happy with them before we choose the manufacturer and we'll make sure there are some extra sleeves too, just in case you have any particularly aggressive or sticky witches who will be rough on them. Sleeve manufacturing is always way faster than the rest of the game so this will not slow down our timeline at all and we've done custom sleeves before so it will go smoothly.

The art on these sleeves will almost surely be done by the game's artist, Andrea Olgiati, but we still have to make sure he has time available to do it. I'm sure he'll be able to fit these in because he is always very accommodating. He hasn't done it yet, so the art in the imagery on the campaign page are just possible mock-ups and may not match what your sleeves look like in the end. We've talked internally about a few different designs we could go with, but whatever they look like, we think you'll like them as much or more than our Barker's Row backers liked their custom sleeves.

We got some quotes already and we will get some more and test out the quality of samples to make sure we are happy with them, but we are comfortable offering you a price that is close to what 4 packs of 50 non-custom sleeves would cost, so we feel like anyone who was going to get sleeves anyway can't really pass up this Add On. It will be $17 for all the sleeves, which includes US shipping and non-US folks can add $5 for shipping to make it $22 USD. You can add that onto your pledge now to help us achieve stretch goals or you can add them on later in the pledge manager. If everyone who said they were going to add these on in the survey does it, we'll have that $40K stretch goal achieved today!

Because we know some All the Things backers got that reward level to set it and forget it, we are going to give the sleeves Add On away to them for free. This is another way we can share some of the success of this campaign with you and it might be enough of a reason for some of you to bump up to that reward level if you were on the fence. That level will be sold out before the end of the campaign for sure, so you don't have much time left if you want one of them. The next section will tell you more about Barker's Row, which is included in the All the Things reward.

Barker's Row

Barker’s Row is a different game by the same artist that you can Add On in this campaign or you’ll get it in the All the Things level. Barker's Row is a slightly lighter "gateway" game than New Salem and is based around a trick taking mechanism for 2-4 players by game designer Steven Aramini. In it, you are a carnival barker trying to fill your grandstands with cute "rube" meeples by playing the most fantastic attractions, each with its own unique power that will help you later in the game. As we mentioned, it is done by the same amazing artist who did New Salem who turns this into a beautiful and creepy carnival experience.

This reward level represents the last of the deluxe copies we have from the last campaign that we printed as extras in case there were damaged copies or what-not, so when they’re gone, they are gone forever. We are almost sold out of the first print run of the game itself so it’s about to become hard to find for at least a while. If you want to learn more about Barker's Row, check out the video below on how to play it by B-Roll and Board Games that just dropped last night because they did such a fantastic job with it and it shows off the deluxe components and custom sleeves as well:

Future Expansions

Someone in the sleeve vote comments asked how future expansions would be handled since we have some difference in card layouts and backs of cards between 1st and 2nd Editions. As we have done in this campaign, we are taking all of that into consideration and everything in the Upgrade Kit levels will match your 1st Edition copies splendidly. If you come back and support us on a Kickstarter for a future expansion for this game, we will support both 1st or 2nd Edition of the game in the same way, so you can confidently back either the Upgrade Kit or 2nd Edition levels and know we will support you in the future.

A Message from Stuart

Friends, it’s Stuart again, and I come bearing more news, but I warn you, it is not good. More children in town are exhibiting the odd behavior I mentioned last time. They are screaming in the middle of the night and speaking incomprehensible jibberish to those that cannot be seen. What has befallen these children?

Oh and I have more to tell you. Last night, when Elizabeth Hubbard was passing through Salem, she says she was stalked by a WOLF -- but this was not a normal wolf. It was as if it was toying with her. She says it was just watching her, following her, as if it was telling Elizabeth that she was encroaching on its territory. She says it was displaying a human demeanor and she fears it may have actually been a witch in disguise. She is sure that it was, at the very least, sent by a witch. What do these witches want with us? -Stuart

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well that doesn't sound very good, Stuart, but thanks for the news from 17th century Salem Village.

Feel free to send us any questions through KS messages or comments. We know there were some big changes here, which we normally don't do in the middle of the campaign, but so many of you told us you wanted these sleeves so we felt like we had to make it happen while accounting for all the reward levels it would affect. We hope you like it and we'll see you next time!

-Clayton and Brian
